Mt. Vernon Daily News
May 19, 1894

For amateurs, several of whom Friday evening made their first appearance in public, the performance given by the Deac-- comedy company at Music Hall was a very credible one.

A little more life and animation on the part of some of the principal actors would have made the performance much more acceptable, but there was an excellence in this particular by some of the others that was surprising.

The impersonation of an old maid by Miss Hattie Ellis was worthy of a professional, in fact, numbers of professionals who have appeared here have failed to do nearly as well.

It is not so likely that the handsome and intelligent young miss will ever enact the role in any other than an artificial manner, but there is no disputing that she know’s how to do so to perfection.
