Velma (Beckman) Wilson

Velma Wilson, 90, of Bonnie died 8:54 a.m. March 4, 2003, at St. Mary's/Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Wilson was born Jan. 10, 1913, in Jefferson County to John and Luna (Rightnowar) Beckman.

She married Herman Wilson Sept. 11, 1929, in Benton; he died April 27, 1960.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home. The Revs. Jesse Allen and Charles Frost will officiate. Burial will be at South Hickory Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by five sons, Herman Wilson Jr. and wife Barbara of Mt. Vernon, James C. Wilson and wife Marjorie of Ponchatoula, La., Everet Wilson of Mt. Vernon, David Wilson and wife Glenda of Humboldt, Tenn., and Kenneth Wilson and wife Dorothy of Bonnie; six daughters, Mildred Russell and husband Charles of Bluford, Wanda Smith and husband John of Opdyke, Barbara Fullerton and husband Winston of Ina, Judith Williams and husband Darrell of Washington, Janice Laur and husband David of Waltonville, and Verla Johnson and husband Jack of Ina; one brother, Johnie Beckman and wife Jewell Dean of Mt. Vernon; sister-in-law, Mildred Beckman of Bonnie; 3grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; several step- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She attended the Nason Freewill Baptist Church.

Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two daughters, Imogene Pilson and Joyce Wilson; four brothers, Arthur, Howard, James and Virgil Beckman; three sisters, Inez Engram, June LaSara, and Opal Beckman; four grandchildren, Donald Pilson, Carol Wilson, Carolyn Wilson, and Marlin Kent Smith; and one great-granddaughter, Michelle Brawley.

For those who wish memorials may be made to the South Hickory Hill Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL. 62864. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Hughey Funeral Home, where you may call 242-3348 for obituary information at any time.
