Elder S. M. Wilson

Elder S. M. WILSON was born in Tennessee August 22, 1838, died at his home in Mt. Vernon, IL., October 5, 1913, age 75y 1m 17d.

He was married to Miss Rebecca H. OSBORN December 5, 1865; to this union eight children were born; three are dead, five living.

After her death he was married to Miss Isadora COARSEN; to this union no children were born.

After she departed for the Happy Land, he married Mrs. Mary DAVIS, who survives him.

"Uncle Sam," as he was commonly known, professed faith in Christ about 60 years ago and lived faithful until the end. He was ordained a Missionary Baptist minister about 41 years ago. He had been a faithful member of the Oak Grove Church ever since he was converted until he moved his membership to the Park Avenue Baptist Church about 3 months ago.

He leaves to mourn their loss, a wife, five children: Mrs. Martha COARSEN, Mrs. Sarah NANCE, Mrs. Rose VAUGHN, Mrs. Dora VANATTA, & Isaac WILSON; four step-children: Mrs. N. NEIL, Mrs. Zoada GREEN, Frank DAVIS and Miss Jennie DAVIS; one sister, Mrs. S. E. MULVANEY and one brother, A. H. WILSON; besides a host of friends & relatives.

We the members of the Park Avenue Baptist Church, feel we have lost a good and faithful member; his friends feel they have lost a good friend; his children know they have lost a kind and loving father; and his wife realizes she has lost a good companion.

The funeral was preached by Rev. SMITH at Oak Grove, afther which the remains were laid to rest in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
