Barbara Jeanne (Whitney) Wilson

Barbara Jeanne (Whitney) Wilson, 75, passed away Dec. 24, 2004, at Hospice of Naples.

Mrs. Wilson was born May 27, 1929, in Wichita, Kan.

She moved to Mt. Vernon in 1931 and graduated from Mt. Vernon Township High School. After graduating from Middlebury College, she returned to Mt. Vernon, raised her family and spent 20 years teaching social studies at Casey Junior High School.

She moved to Naples, Fla., in 1987 and taught at Immokalee High School until she retired in 1996.

Mrs. Wilson’s contributions to the world were many. She was an active member of P.E.O., spent years in leadership positions in the National Council of the Social Studies and enjoyed years of NMLRA competitions.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by her three children and their families: Mike and Diane Wilson, Pam and Peter Birtolo and Bob and Debbie Wilson.

She was the proud grandmother of four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren and the proud great-grandmother of one great-grandchild and three step-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind one brother, Paul Whitney of Illinois.

Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Vernon. The family will receive friends from noon until the funeral hour at the church. Contributions in her memory may be made to either Hospice of Naples, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105, or the P.E.O. Foundation, which provides scholarships for women. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hughey Funeral Home, where you may call 242-3348 for further obituary information.
