Norma (Gass) Williams

Norma Williams, 88, of Woodlawn died 1:20 a.m. July 17, 2005, at Jeffersonian Care Center in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Williams was born Feb. 22, 1917, in Belleville to Joe and Linda (Hargr) Gass.

She married Floyd E. "Blackie" Williams Oct. 13, 1944, in Mississippi County, Ark.; he preceded her in death July 27, 2003.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Woodlawn Oddfellows Cemetery in Woodlawn, with interment to follow. Tom Smith will officiate. It is requested that those wishing to attend gather at the cemetery on Wednesday morning. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Williams is survived by two sons, Andy Williams and wife Marilyn of Woodlawn and Garry Williams and wife Kathy of Deale, Md.; a daughter, Sherrie Chamberlain and husband Bob of Woodlawn; four grandchildren, Andrea Turner of Woodlawn, J.J. Williams of Annapolis, Md., Travis Chamberlain and wife Tracy of St. Louis, Mo., and Tyson Chamberlain of Woodlawn; four great-grandchildren, Zachary Taylor, Allie Turner, Kasey Turner and Cooper Chamberlain; a sister, Lillian Rayfield of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Jim Gass; a granddaughter, Lacy Ann; and a brother-in-law, George Rayfield.

Mrs. Williams was a member of First Baptist Church in Woodlawn.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, where you may call 242-3348 for further information.
