Muriel K. (Newton) Reininger Williams

Muriel K. Reininger Williams, 91, of Mt. Vernon died 12:30 p.m. July 27, 2005, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

She worked for the state of Illinois in the personnel office in Geneva and made her home there while working in Geneva.

Mrs. Williams was born March 2, 1914, in East St. Louis to James L. and Nell (Chambers) Newton.

She married Frank C. Reininger April 22, 1936; he died June 20, 1986.

On April 9, 1989 in Mt. Vernon, she married Virgil Williams; he survives.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at East Salem Baptist Church. The Revs. Richard McCormick, Melvin Larson, Robert Sledge and Dan Lovin will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon and after noon on Saturday at East Salem Baptist Church.

Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband, Virgil Williams of Mt. Vernon; a son, Ron L. Reininger of Daytona Beach, Fla.; stepsons Deanie Williams and wife Phyllis of Mt. Vernon and Carl Williams and wife Debbie of Ina; three step-granddaughters, Tanya McPheeters of Mt. Vernon, Tammy Owens of Dale, Ind., and Clichelle Poole of Mt. Vernon; a step-grandson, Stefan Williams of Sesser; seven step-great-granddaughters; three step-great-grandsons; two sisters-in-law, June Newton of Mt. Vernon and Dorothy Myers of Mt. Vernon; nephews Robert Reininger of South Carolina, Gary Reininger of Mt. Vernon, Bill, David and Max Reininger of Mt. Vernon, Doug Reininger of Mt. Vernon and James Newton of Sesser; and nieces Carmen Webb of Mt. Vernon, Carla Webber of Carbondale, Susan Johnson of Mt. Vernon and Marcella Mays of Dix.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; a nephew, Larry Newton; and a niece, Barbara Steele.

Mrs. Williams was a member of East Salem Baptist Church and a pianist there for 16 years.
