James L. Williams
James L. WILLIAMS died at his home on South Oak Street early Friday morning.
Death resulted from a stroke of apoplexy suffered late Thursday.
Mr. WILLIAMS was born in Clark County February 24, 1888, and had reached
the age of 79 years, 1 month and 12 days. During the active years of his
life he followed the occupation of farming. He left the farm about a year
or so ago and located in Ina.
He was twice married, his first wife being Mary Matilda SHAFER, who died
January 7, 1897. Two daughters survive this marriage, Mrs. Ada COLE of
Whittington, and Mrs. Zelda BURTON of Roswell, New Mexico.
His second wife, who survives, was formerly Emmaline CYPHER. The following
children, two sons and four daughters survive this marriage: Clella WILLIAMS
of Chicago Heights; Buel WILLIAMS of Bonnie; Mrs. Dollie BORDERS of Mt. Vernon;
Miss Marie WILLIAMS, Jacksonville, Ill.; Mrs. Opal WELLS, Chicago Heights;
Mrs. Daisy WHITE, Portsmouth, Va., and Mrs. Minnie FARTHING, Phoenix, Ariz;
also one brother, Charles WILLIAMS, Scotland, Hl., and two half-brothers,
Lon SMITH and Clark SMITH of Clark County, Ill. He is also survived by 21
grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ina Free Will Baptist Church, with
services in charge of Rev. W. R. BURTON. Burial took place at Kirk Cemetery.
