William E. "Bill" Whitson, 73, of Tulsa, Okla., formerly of Jefferson County, died 11:30 a.m. May 20, 2000, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Okla. Mr. Whitson was the owner of a trucking service.

He was born Feb. 13, 1927 in Jefferson County, a son of Ivan and Verneda (Lisenby) Whitson.

He married Emma Lou Sharp July 8, 1961; she survives.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix. Burial will be at East Salem Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children; Dennis Ray Whitson and wife Barbara of Denton, Texas; Terry Jean Pearson and husband Richard of Parsons, Kansas; Nickie Jo Lingle and husband Rodney of Anna; Stanley Ray Benedict of Tulsa, Okla.; Robin Faye Rowe of Tulsa, Okla.; and Randall Eugene Whitson of Oregon; 14 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

Mr. Whitson was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother, Marvin Whitson.
