Barbara White, 74, of Mt. Vernon died 3:02 a.m. July 9, 2003, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

She was retired from Security Bank, where she had worked as an executive secretary. At the time of her death, she was employed as manager of Lincolnshire Apartments.

Mrs. White was born July 4, 1929, in Jefferson County to Bert Borden and Evelyn (Gammon) Borden.

She was married to Robert E. “Gene” White; he died Aug. 18, 2002.

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Hopewell Cemetery in rural Jefferson County. Those attending this service are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Friday. The Revs. Everett Lemay and J. R. Janese will officiate.Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. White is survived by her daughters, Laura Vladetich and husband Mike of Mt. Vernon and Donna Dare and husband Dennis of Mt. Zion; grandchildren Matthew Martin and wife Melanie of Mt. Vernon, Michael Martin and wife Tammy of Mt. Vernon, Daniel Valdetich of Mt. Vernon and Tony Valdetich of Mt. Vernon; a great grandson, Hagan Schneider of Mt. Vernon; a sister, Sharon Davis and husband Bob of Mt. Vernon; nephews David White and Danny White, both of Kentucky; nieces Lynn Curry of O’Fallon, Mo. and Christie Bond of Mt. Vernon; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Auxiliary or Logan Street Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt.
