Maude Bly (Butler) Whalen

Maude B. Whalen, 92, Romeoville, a former resident of Bluford, died at 6:40 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital in Joliet.

Mrs. Whalen was born May 21, 1891 in Wayne County, the daughter of Washington Walker and Lucetta (Bennett) Butler.

On Dec. 24, 1914 in Wayne City, she married Roscoe V. Whalen, who died Jan 1, 1966.

She is survived by two sons, Howard Whalen and his wife, Jean, of Pottsville, Pa., and Noel Whalen and his wife, Doris of Romeoville; three sisters, Mrs. Grace Young of Fairfield, Mrs. Gladys Young of St. Elmo and Mrs. Nellie Schmidt of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three daughters, Mary, Mildred and an infant daughter; one sister, Lena Vance; and four brothers, Perry, Walker, Herbert and Monroe Butler, two sons, Glen and Harold Whalen, who preceded her in death.

She was a Baptist.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Bluford Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kerry High officiating. Burial will follow in Laird Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Tuesday.


*Note from Sandy: Maude died 4 Dec 1983. Her father's middle name was Webster, not Walker.
