William H. "Dick" Webber

William H. "Dick" Webber, 84, Route 1, Brownsville Road, died at 11 a.m. Tuesday at his home. He was employed in the switching department of Mt. Vernon Car Manufacturing Co. before his retirement.

Mr. Webber was born in Jefferson County March 15, 1897, the son of Thomas J. and Alice (Eskew) Webber.

On Aug. 28, 1923, at Salem, he married Bertha Boyle, and she survives.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Bill of Pinckneyville, one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Gladys) Shields of Mt. Vernon; five granddaughters, eight great-grandchildren, three nephews and one niece.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Memorial Cemetery.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Military flag presentation rites will be conducted at the cemetery.

An Army veteran of World War I, Mr. Webber was a member of World War I Barracks No. 308 of Benton and the Brotherhood Railroad Carmen of America. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
