Halick Andrew Voyles

Halick Andrew Voyles, 83, of Bluford and formerly of Belle Rive, passed away at 10:10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

He was born in Jefferson County on Sunday, Dec. 6, 1925, a son of Henry and Mamie (Ellis) Voyles.

He married Pansy Aliene Lovin on Dec. 11, 1950, in Belle Rive, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 30, 1990.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Revs. Melvin "Buck" Larson and Jerome Hefner officiating. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery in Jefferson County. The chaplain of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 will conduct a military flag presentation service at the cemetery.Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

He is survived by four daughters, Sharon Rosalie Belcher and husband David of Mt. Vernon, Carol LeAnn Voyles of Bluford, "Dee Dee" Voyles of Bluford and Cindy Marie Hefner and husband Tom of Bonnie; a brother,Arthur Voyles of Bluford; a sister, Opal Mitchell of New Orleans; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents; his wife; one daughter, Elaine Kay Voyles; four brothers, George, Alfred E., Louie and Woodrow Voyles; and one sister, Cora Rainwater Sutton, preceded him in death.

Halick was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War; he worked at Ranmar Tire Company until retirement, was a member of Missionary Baptist Church in Belle Rive, was an avid gardener, nature lover and a true woodsman. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
