Velma Juanita (Throgmorton) Wilson Vallowe

Velma Juanita (Throgmorton) Vallowe, 92, of McLeansboro died at 3:20 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi.

She was born Aug. 25, 1914, in Mt. Vernon, daughter to Downing Reed and Willie Mae "Wilma" (Stone) Throgmorton.

She married Tandy Denver Wilson on Jan. 27, 1930; they were married for 16 years.

On June 17, 1949, she married Frederic F. Vallowe in Mt. Vernon; he preceded her in death on May 10, 1997.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Wendell Garrison officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Vallowe was a homemaker. Her love, loyalty and service to her family, church and friends is her lasting legacy. What began as helping Nan (Mrs. Ben) Martin in the nursery at Logan Street Baptist Church grew into more than 30 years of children's ministries with the church.

Mrs. Vallowe is survived by two sons, Herbert Ray "Frank" Wilson of Metamora and Frederic F. Vallowe Jr. and wife Karen of McLeansboro; two daughters, Doris Jean Standerfer and husband Ernest D. of Nashville, Tenn., and Brenda D. Stonecipher and husband Larry D. of Springfield; two sisters, Audrey Maxine Rogers of Thomasville, N.C., and Reeda (Mrs. Calvin) Shlusher of Carmel, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Mr. Vallowe, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Edward, Virgil and John Throgmorton; and three sisters, Evelyn Tracey, Doris Cole and Margery Throgmorton.

Memorials may be given to the Logan Street Day Care and Preschool Center or to the Carmi Baptist Children's Home and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
