Orval Amos Turner

Orval Amos Turner, 86, of Mt. Vernon, died 7:40 a.m. Feb. 14, 1995, at Mt. Vernon Care Center.

He was employed at Mt. Vernon Car Shops and Roth Dairy in Mt. Vernon. He retired from Thrall Car Mfg. in Chicago Heights in 1974.

Mr. Turner was born Jan. 3, 1909, in Webb City, Mo., a son of Nathan Eugene and Burnett (Ray) Turner.

March 25, 1936 in Mt. Vernon, he married Geraldine Shoemaker, who survives.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home with Mike Hoke officiating. Burial will be in Old Baptist Cemetery, near Sesser.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., today at Hughey Funeral Home.

In addition to his wife, Geraldine Turner of Mt. Vernon, Mr. Turner is survived by a son, Charles Amos Turner of Mt. Vernon; three daughters, Marjorie Myers and husband David, Clara Story and husband Charles, and Elsie Nadolski, all of Mt. Vernon; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a member of the Southwest Christian Church.

Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and three brothers.
