John Toney

John TONEY, Former Well Known Ina Citizen, is Dead

John Toney, formerly of Ina, who for many years was a section foreman on the C.& E.I. railroad, out of Ina,died Friday night, December 28, at a hospital in Danville, Ill.

He had been making his home with his son, Bert Toney at Danville. Mr. Toney had been on a visit to Alton and was enroute home, and was stricken with illness on the train, his condition being so serious he was unable to give the train crew any information regarding himself, and was hurried to a hospital at Danville, where he died at seven o'clock Friday night, death resulting from a most malignant attact of pneuonia.

The body will be brought to Mt. Vernon for burial and will arrive tonight, and short funeral services will be held at two o'clock tomorrow afternoon at Oakwood, followed by burial at Oakwood.

Mr. Toney was 77 years old, and is survived by four children, W.S. Toney, of Ina, Bert Toney, Danville, W.D. Toney, Scheller, and Mrs. John Puckett, near Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Toney before locating at Ina, lived many years in Mt. Vernon and he had many friends both in this city and in Ina and vicinity. He was a son of the late Ephraim Toney.

Mr. Toney retired from railroad work some years ago, after many years of faithful and efficient service.

He was a good citizen, kind hearted, friendly and in his quiet way endeared himself to the many people he met in the course of his active life and later years.
