Vincent Tolley
Vincent TOLLEY, a retired carpenter, died at 5:15 p.m.yesterday
at his home, 1205 S. 26th St., after an illness of three weeks
following a paralytic stroke. His age was 76y10m. Funeral services
will be held Wednesday at 2:20 p.m. at Hawkins and Pulley Funeral Home,
conducted by the Rec. Acle ROBINSON, and burial will follow in West Salem Cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the family home, where friends may call.
At noon tomorrow, the body will be removed to the funeral home.
Mr. TOLLEY was born October 30, 1866 in Hamilton County, the son of
John and Nancy (UPTON) TOLLEY. He had made his home in Jefferson County
since a small boy. On November 21, 1908 he was united in marriage with
Clemmie WILLIAMS at Fairfield, IL. His widow survives.
Mr. TOLLEY worked as a carpenter for 50 years. He retired because of
failing health about 10 years ago. Surviving, besides his widow, are
six sons, Olan and Logan of Mt. Vernon, Charles, Elbert, and Delbert,
all at home, and Allson, who is stationed with the U. S. Navy at Treasure
Island, California; four daughters, Mrs. Frank BETHEL and Mrs. Alva CHAPMAN
of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Thomas ELDER and Mrs. Thomas BOWLING of St. Louis, MO;
two brothers, Logan TOLLEY of Dahlgren and Fred TOLLEY of Mt. Vernon;
two sisters, Mrs. Fred BAYER and Mrs. Mary LOWERY of Mt. Vernon; and 8
grandchildren. One son, Gale, a brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
