Irene (Ferguson) Taylor

Irene Taylor, 80, of Woodlawn died 7:32 a.m. Oct. 31, 2004, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

She worked as a cook at Woodlawn High School and at different restaurants in Woodlawn. She was also a licensed day care provider.

Mrs. Taylor was born Jan. 25, 1924, in Ashley to Omer R. and Myrtle R. (Jones) Ferguson.

She married Warren Taylor Sept. 14, 1973, in Woodlawn; he died March 25, 2003.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Roger Lipe will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Catherine Cemetery in rural Jefferson County. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Taylor is survived by a son, Larry Knox and wife Pam of Affton, Mo.; three daughters, Belva Hill of Mt. Vernon, Linda Kirk of Mt. Vernon and Karen Knox of Mt. Vernon; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Bob Ferguson of Dixon; three sisters, Addie Stevens and husband Joe of Springfield, Mo., Nancy Reglin and husband Kenneth of Bosie, Idaho, and Marlene Braddy and husband Dennis of Walnut Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Leona Ferguson; and her husband, Warren Taylor.

Mrs. Taylor was a member of Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and First Baptist Church of Woodlawn.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Woodlawn and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
