Mrs. J.E. Stroup, Mother of Mt. V. Resident Dies Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. J. E. Stroup, mother of Mrs. Ray A. Gowler of Mt. Vernon, which occurred at Carbondale, Ill. hospital after a short illness. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 am ata the First Christian church in Carbondale. Burial will be in Albion, Ill., with graveside services at Grayson cemetery at 3:00 pm. Mrs. Stroup was the mother of Mrs. Ray A. Gowler of this city, David and Archie of Carbondale, Johnnie Stroup who is in Okinawa with the U.S. Army, Mrs. J.W. Dillow of Carbondale and Viriginia Leek of Tucson, Arizona. She is also survived by one brother, T.M. Pettigrew of Golden Gate and one sister, Lillie Mann of Albion.Her husband preceded her in death in 1937.
