Etta Mabel (Hunt) Minor Stewart

Etta Mabel Stewart, 95, of Mt. Vernon, died at 3:45 a.m. Feb. 7, 2007, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

She was born Dec.15, 1911, in Jefferson County to U.S. Hunt and Mary Etta (Reed) Hunt.

She first married Chester H. Minor in Aug. 1928 and he was killed Jan. 6 1945 in WWII Battle of the Bulge.

She later married Forrest P. Stewart on Aug. 6, 1948 in South Bend, Ind. He preceded her in death on May 23, 1980.

Etta had worked as a seamstress at the Mode-O-Day garment factory. She was a member of Logan Street Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Rev. Jim Herzing will officiate. Entombment will be in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Woodlawn. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service time Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Etta is survived by daughter Norma J. Webb and husband Roger of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren Larry D. Webb and wife Gerri of Centralia, Pamela S. McMahan and husband Richard of Mt. Vernon, and Jayson M. Webb and wife Erika of Boulder, Colo.; great grandchildren Timothy Q. Webb and wife Angela of Waltonville, Maia C. Maricle and husband Jeff of Evansville, Ind., Andrea L. Snyder and husband John of Elberfeld, Ind., Katie E. McMahan of Louisville, Ky., Amelia M. Webb of Boulder, Colo. and Madison A. Webb of Boulder, Colo.; step grandson, Larry Scott and wife Michelle of Mt. Vernon; great great step granddaughter Alexus Scott of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husbands, brothers Roy Hunt and Conley Hunt , sisters Mildred Miller and Mae Sechrest, preceded her in death.

For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Logan Street Baptist Church Building Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt.
