Hester (Upton) Carmichael Stewart

Mrs. Hester A. STEWART died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. S. S. Mannen, near Waltonville, at 7:30 Friday morning,November 17, aged 78 years, 1 months and 23 days.

She was born in White County, September 25, 1821 and is the last of seven children.

She was wedded to Peter W. Stewart in 1841 in Monroe County, IL. Of this union, nine children were born, five girls and four boys of which three survives, viz: Mrs. Jennie A. Fairchild; Mrs. Eliza S. Mannen and Ida Leona.

She also leaves seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She united with the Universalist church when first organized and lived a devoted christian life.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Minor Saturday morning, the interment at Knob Prairie Cemetery.

The lips are still, the eye is dim That beamed with joy and love; The spirit - it hath gone to Him Who gave it from above.


Note:
Hester was first married to Jeremiah T. Carmichael in 1838 in Monroe County, Illinois. Jeremiah died in 1839.
