George O. Smithpeters

George O. Smithpeters, 68, of Mt. Vernon died 1:53 a.m. Nov. 21, 2004, at Nature Trail Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.

He was a laborer for Flota Ice Company.

Mr. Smithpeters was born Jan. 1, 1936, in Mt. Vernon, to Ralph and Gretta (Maynor) Smithpeters.

He served in the United States Army.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Mike Sheets will officiate. Military flag presentation will be conducted by the Chaplain of American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon. Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Tuesday afternoon. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home.

Mr. Smithpeters is survived by two brothers, Tommy Smithpeters and wife Marilyn of Mt. Vernon and Bill Smithpeters and wife Georgialee of Nine Falls, Wash. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jack and Jimmy Smithpeters; and an infant sister, Elizabeth Smithpeters.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Meadowbrook Christian Church Building Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home or by mail at Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt.
