Sarah Maude (Moss) Smith

Sarah Maude Smith Dies Today at Home In Shiloh Township

Mrs. Sarah Maude Smith, wife of O.D. "Dick" Smith, former Mt. Vernon fire chief, died today at 12:20 p.m. at her home in Shiloh township following an illness of three years duration. Her age was 64 years, two months and one day.

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Thursday afternoon at Myers Chapel, conducted by Rev. J. L. Miller and Rev. C. C. Hall and burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Myers Chapel until the funeral hour where friends may call at any convenient time.

Mrs. Smith, ill for some time had been bedfast since April 12 of this year and death was not unexpected.

Mrs. Smith was born June 8th, 1874 in Jefferson county, the daughter of T.C. and Elmarah Moss, both of whom preceded her in death.

She was united in marriage with O. D. Smith in 1896, her husband surviving.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Pleasant Grove M.E. church.

Besides her husband, she is survived by six sisters, Mrs. Rado Wallace, Mrs. Mary A. Swift, Mrs. Blanche Whitlock, and Mrs. Homer Pace of Mt. Vernon; Mrs. Gail Anderson of Centralia and Mrs. Bess Meffert of Marion; and one brother, Roy Moss of Chicago.
