Linda Ann (Mick) Short

Linda Ann Short, age 68 of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 2:15 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2010.

Linda was born June 5, 1941 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, daughter of Orville and Edith (Antle) Mick.

She married William Leon Short on September 18, 1959 in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Short was the former director of the Cedarhurst Art Center and retired after 26 years of service.

She currently served as the secretary for the Jefferson County Historical Society where she was the editor of the Jeffersonian News Letter and also the former president of the Cedarhurst Quilters. Linda was a person of many talents and interests including: quilting, painting in water color, genealogy & historical research and her work at the Jefferson County Historical Society & Village.

She also worked with batik, stained glass, pottery, photography, and enjoyed writing and entering competition with her many arts and crafts.

Linda is survived by her husband, William L. Short of Mt. Vernon; two sisters: Doris (late Russell) Edwards of Valparaiso, Indiana and Janet and husband Bob Cook of The Villages, Florida; four nieces: Terry and husband David Ryzewski of Valparaiso, Indiana, Virginia Moore of Macomb, Michigan, Lois Edwards and husband Michael Sweeney of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Susan and husband John Meyer of Dyer, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, Gary Michael Short; one sister, Virginia Mick; and also two brothers, Robert & William Mick.

A celebration of her life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon; with Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating. Interment will be held at the Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the service time at 4:00 p.m.

For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Jefferson County Historical Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.
