His second wife, who is still living, was Miss Amanda Rainey and they were blessed by seven children, six of whom are living; they are Alfred, Ernest, Homer, Eugene, Ada and Minnie Short.

Mr. Short was a man of many note-worthy characteristics, a man who held his home and family above all earthly things and was always ready to do the best in his power for them.

He was a soldier in the Civil war and a member of the 144 Illinois regiment.

He shared the Methodist view of religion and was a member of that church.
