Elizabeth (Ragan) Shoemaker

Mrs. Elizabeth Shoemaker Dies At Age Of 73

Mrs. Elizabeth Shoemaker, 73, of Route 1, Mt. Vernon died at 9:00 a. m. Sunday in the Good Samaritan Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Tuesday at the Myers Chapel. Burial will be in the Horse Prairie cemetery, in Franklin county. The body will lie in state at the Myers Chapel, where friends may call after 4:00 p. m. today.

Mrs. Shoemaker was born December 29, 1888. in Mt. Vernon the daughter of Samuel N. and Susannah (Kinison) Ragan.

On June 23, 1909, she was married to Sherman Shoemaker, who survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Samuel of Lockport, Ill., Charles W. of Mt. Vernon and Kenneth R. of Owensboro, Ky.; four daughters, Mrs. Cecil Webb of Lockport, Ill., Mrs. Irene Peacock, Mrs. Ivalene Harlow and Miss Beulah Shoemaker, all of Mt Vernon; one brother, Walker Ragan of Mt. Vernon; 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Shoemaker was a member of the Church of the Brethren.


*NOTE:
This obituary does have a mistake. It states that Elizabeth is to be buried at Horse Prairie Cemetery. Elizabeth shares a stone with her husband at the Old Baptist Cemetery in Jefferson county and has both a birth and death date. The Horse Prairie Cemetery inventory does not list an Elizabeth Shoemaker.
