Edward S. Sellers

Edward Sellers, 78 Bluford Man Dies In Car, Train Crash

Edward S. Sellers, 78, of Bluford, was killed at 4:26 p.m. yesterday in a train-car collission at the Main street crossing of the Southern Railway Co. in Bluford.

Mr. Sellers a retired employee of the Illinois Central Railroad, was fatally hurt when the east bound freight train struck his south bound car.

Witnesses told officers that the signal lights were working at the crossing and that the train whistled as it approached.

Mr. Sellers was pronounced dead on arrival at Good samaritan Hospital. L.P. Small, 60. of Route 2, Princeton, Ind., was engineer of the train and S.S. Crooks 55, of Princeton, was the conductor.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete today. The body was taken to the Bluford Funeral Home.


Rites Saturday At Bluford For Edward Sellers

Funeral Services for Edward James sellers will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Bluford Funeral Home with the Rev, Frank Brookman officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens at Mt. Vernon. The body will lie in state at the funeral home where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. today.

Mr. Sellers, 78, of Bluford was killed at 4:30? p.m.Wednesday in a train-car collission at the Main Street crossing of the Southern Railway Co. in Bluford.

He was born Nov. 11, 1889, at Versailles, Ill., the son of George and Carrie (Dunn) Sellers.

On November 2, 1912, he was married to Nancy Ann Brown, who survives.

He is also survived by a son, George Edward Sellers of Philadelphia, PA., two daughters, Mrs. Helen Nilges of Sunset Hill, Mo., and Mrs. Jacqueline Morris of Ottowa, Ill; a brother, Willie Sellers, Jacksonville, Ill.; a sister, Miss Mildred Sellers of Springfield, Ill..; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Sellers was a member of the Catholic Church in Jacksonville.
