Rev. Sechrest Dies At Dahlgren

Rev. Sylvester Sechrest, pastor of the M. E. Church at Dahlgren, died at the parsonage in that town, yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The cause of the death was influenza, resulting in pneumonia.

The body was brought here today and taken to Hopewell Church where the funeral sermon was preached by Rev. W. J. Hopper, pastor of Epworth M. E. Church, assisted by Rev. R. L. Seymour, the pastor of the circuit.

Rev. Sechrest is survived by his wife and a son about nine years old.

The wife is seriously ill with the influenza.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Sechrest of the Hopewell neighborhood and has several brothers and sisters living.

He had been a minister in the Southern Illinois conference for five years and was having excellent success in his work.

Note: His name is spelled Sechrist on the stone. Misspelled by the stone company? Maybe intended to say See Christ.

Note from Sandy:

Here is his Findagrave Memorial.
