Lurena Catherine (Brookman) Sechrest

Funeral services for Lurena Catherine Sechrest, who died at 2:45 am today at her home on north 11th street, will be held at 2:30 Sunday afternoon at the Hopewell Methodist Church. The Rev. Thomas Harper will conduct the service and burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery.

Mrs. Sechrest is survived by 91 descendants, including three sons, Harry of Salem, Joel of Mt. Vernon, and Charles of Charleston, Mo.; four daughters, Mrs. George Nelson of Range, Mrs. Beulah Puckett of Salem, Mrs. Naomi Davis of Chester, Mrs. Vera Mays of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. William Haley of Oakdale, Ill.; 43 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Sechrest was 83 years, seven months and nine days of age.

She was born March 5, 1867 in Jefferson county, the daughter of John and Nancy (Laird) Brookman.

She was united in marriage to William A. Sechrest January 22. 1885. He preceded her in death June 20, 1924.

Mrs. Sechrest was a member of the Epworth Methodist Church.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Effie Beal and Cora Pearl Sechrest and three sons, William H. Sechrest, the Rev. Sylvester Sechrest and Verney Sechrest.

The body will lie in state at Pulley Funeral Home, where friends may call.
