Jeanette “Susie” Sechrest, 56, of Wood River and formerly of Granite City died 4:50 a.m. Feb. 9, 2004, at Gateway Hospital in Granite City.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Sechrest was born Jan. 21, 1948, in East St. Louis to Orvile and Lillie (Malloy) Copeland.

She married Bertram Adrian Sechrest July 18, 1964, in Granite City; he died June 23, 1990.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Robert Cox and Tim Gill will officiate. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery in rural Jefferson County. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Sechrest is survived by her mother, Lillie White of Granite City; sons Bertram A. Sechrest Jr. and wife Heather of Granite City and Ullon A. Sechrest of Granite City; daughters Susan Gibbear and husband Jeff of Bunker Hill and Ullona Mae Matthews and husband Chris of Florissant, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; a great-grandson; brothers Orville “Gene” Copland and wife Della of St. Louis, Mo., and Harvey Copeland of Granite City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, her husband and a granddaughter, Vera Sechrest.

Mrs. Sechrest was a member of Greater Alton Church of Christ.
