John Scott

John SCOTT, an old soldier, died at his home on Elm street last night from the effects of a congestive chill after an illness of twenty-four hours duration.

Deceased was fifty-three years of age and removed to this city from near Orchardville, in Wayne county, about three weeks ago with the intention of making this his home.

He worked all day Monday bud did not complain of any feeling of illness. During the night however he was taken with a congestive chill and his condition grew rapidly worse until his death came to his release.

He was born in Wayne county and except during the term of his service in the army had always lived there until his removal to Mt. Vernon.

During the rebellion he volunteered as a member of Company I, 48th Regiment Ill. Infantry and served with till his regiment was mustered out at the close of the war.

He leaves a wife and six children to mourn his death.

All 6 of the children live in Wayne county except one son and one daughter who came here with the parents.

The body was taken to the old home near Orchardsville this afternoon where the funeral and interment will take place tomorrow morning.
