Paul L. Rubenacker

Paul L. Rubenacker, 85, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 12:11 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2008, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

He was born in Hamilton County on Nov. 18, 1922, a son of Albert and Irene (Schuster) Rubenacker.

He first married Thelma Elizabeth Payne on June 9, 1947, in Enfield, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 21, 1987.

He later married Colleen Martin Adams on July 5, 1991, in Mt. Vernon.

Paul was owner and operator of the auto body supply company, Hefty T. Herman Co. of St. Louis, Mo.

A funeral mass will be held 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon with Father Daniel Jurek officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemtery in Mt. Vernon. A military flag prensentation will be conducted by American Legion Post 141.

There will be no public visitation held.

Paul is survived by his wife, Colleen Rubenacker of Mt. Vernon; two sons, Dennis Rubenacker and wife Susan of Paducah, Ky., and Mark Rubenacker and wife Marilyn of Paducah, Ky.; two daughters, Martha Ann Stowe and husband Robert of Lebanon and Rhonda Rubenacker of Perryville, Mo.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Friedman and husband Bill of Carmi and Mary Karcher of Dahlgren; brother, Charles "Sonny" Rubenacker of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents; first wife; one brother; two sons, Phillip and David Rubenacker; and grandson, Justin preceded him in death.

Paul served in the U.S. Navy with the "Seabees," during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the D.A.V. of St. Louis, Mo., a member of the Knights of Columbus Monsignor James P. Burke 2964 and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon.

For those who wish, memorials may be given to St. Mary's Catholic School in Mt. Vernon, and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, Ill., 62864.
