Walter Edward "Ed" Rough

Walter Edward "Ed" Rough, retired farmer and orchardist who for many years served as highway commissioner of Mt. Vernon township, died at 7:40 a.m. Sunday at his home, 325 north Fourth street. His age was 71 years, six months and one day.

Mr. Rough for many years owned and operated a farm and orchard north of Mt. Vernon, near the Tolle Road.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Myers Chapel, with the Rev. Paul E. Wartenbe officiating and burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery.The body will remain at Myers Chapel, where fiends may call.

Mr. Rough was born November 1, 1876 in Shiloh township, Jefferson county, the son of Walter and Mary (Yates) Rough.

On September 7, 1907 he was married to Minnie Vaughn, who survives.

Mr. Rough was a member of the local lodge of Modern Woodmen of America.

Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Glenn of Mt. Vernon, Robert of Toledo, Ohio, Frank of Champaign, Ill., and Jimmie of Annapolis, Md.; three daughters, Mrs. R. J. Bond of St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. Clyde Lee of Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Robert M. Daly of New York City; and ten grandchildren.
