John T. Robinson

John Robinson, for many years a resident of the Hopewell neighborhood in Jefferson county died last night at Benton, according to information received here. He was 75 years old.

Mr. Robinson was born in this county and lived here during the greater part of his life. He and Mrs. Robinson, who with one son survives, moved to a farm near Benton about 10 years ago. The son is Ross Robinson of Pineville, Ore. Mr. Robinson was a member of the Methodist church at Benton.

Funeral services will be held in Benton at two o'clock Saturday afternoon followed by interment in the Hopewell Cemetery in Jefferson county.

When a resident of Jefferson county, he lived a short distance from Mt. Vernon. He was well known to many Mt. Vernon residents and other Jefferson county people, and had many friends in the county. After locating in Benton he visited Mt. Vernon occasionally and was always given a a cordial welcome by his old friends here. Mr. Robinson was a good citizen and a good man.

John T. Robinson, father of the late Pearl Robinson of this city passed away at 10:30 o’clock Friday night from effects of a stroke of apoplexy suffered last January.

Mr. Robinson was born on Feb. 12, 1857, in Mt. Vernon, the son of S. J. and Nancy Robinson, being at the time of death 78 years old. He had lived his entire life in Jefferson and Franklin counties, having made his home since his illness with his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Pearl Robinson, at her country home northwest of Benton. He was a well known and esteemed citizen in the communities in which he resided. He was a faithful member of the Methodist church, his membership being in the Benton church for a number of years.

On December 24, 1883, he was united in marriage to Miss Harriett Morrow at Mt. Vernon, and to this union were born three sons, Ralph Robinson of Prineville, Oregon, Pearl, who passed away on March 31, 1928, and J. Lester Robinson, who died on Feb. 24, 1917.

Surviving are the widow, one son, Ralph, Prineville, Oregon; three sisters, Mrs. Green Warren, Mrs. John R. Pearcy, and Mrs. Omer Garrison, all of Mt. Vernon, and three grandchildren, Miss Wilma and Ormand Robinson of Benton, and Allen Robinson of Prineville, Oregon.

The body will lie in state at the Mitchell Funeral Home on South Main Street until Sunday afternoon when funeral services will be held at the First Methodist Church. Rev. M. B. Van Leer and Rev. J. L. Meads officiating. Interment will be made in Hopewell Cemetery at Mt. Vernon.
