Mrs. Nellie Read Dies; Funeral is Held 1:15 Today

Mrs. Nellie Moss Read, a respected lifelong resident of Mt. Vernon, died at 1:15 p.m. Saturday at the home of her sister, Miss Jessie Smith, 113 N. Twelth street, after an illness of several years.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. today at Myers Chapel, conducted by the Rev. M.A. Souers and burial followed in Oakwood cemetery.

She was married to Frank P. Read, who preceded her in death on June 11, 1935.

Mrs. Read was born in Jefferson county, the daughter of the late George W. and Mahala Moss Smith who were members of old and highly respected Jefferson county families.

Mrs. Read was held in the highest respect and affection by all who knew her.

She is survived by one brother, Otto E. Smith of Mt. Vernon and two sisters, Jessie Smith and Mrs. F.F. Johnson of Mt. Vernon.
