Dr. Edgar Byron Ratliff

Dr. Edgar Byron Ratliff of Springfield, 74, a former resident of Mt. Vernon, died at 12:20 am today at Memorial Hospital in Springfield at the age of 74 years.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday at Smith Funeral Chapel in Springfield with Dr. Joseph H. Albrecht officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery near Mt. Vernon. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 pm.The body will lie in state at the Smith Funeral Chapel where friends may call between 4:00 and 9:00 pm Friday.

Dr. Ratliff was born in Mt. Vernon on Dec. 25, 1893, the son of Richard Lewis and Anna (McClure) Ratliff.

On March 26, 1920, in Mt. Vernon he was married to Jeanette Buescher, who survives.

Other survivors include two brothers, Richard M. Ratliff and J. Lester Ratliff, both of Mt. Vernon and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Leonard Yandell of Mt. Vernon; and two nieces.

Dr. Ratliff, a retired dentist, graduated from Washington University school of Dentistry in 1917. He was a life-long member of G.B. Black Dental Society and a member of the American Dental Society.

He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Springfield, and the Masonic Lodge in Pawnee, and a veteran of World War I.
