Elizabeth (Scheller) Rainey

Mrs. Elizabeth Scheller Rainey, of 1904 Broadway, died at 12:30 a.m. Sunday at Good Samaritan Hospital. Her age was 81 years, four months, and 26 days.

Mrs. Rainey was the widow of John Logan Rainey, a well known Mt. Vernon grain merchant and the daughter of George Scheller, for who the Jefferson county village of Scheller was named.

She was born September 30, 1868 in Scheller, the daughter of George and Gertrude (Kuhn) Scheller.

The village of Scheller was laid out on land owned by the family and was named in their honor.

She was married to John L. Rainey, who preceded her in death on September 8, 1939.

Mrs. Rainey was a member of the Mt. Vernon Federated Woman's Club.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Myers chapel, with Dr. R. B. Guthrie officiating, and burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. The body will remain at Myers Chapel, where friends may call at any time until the funeral hour.

Mrs. Rainey is survived by two sons, J. T. Rainey of Pasadena, Calif. and Joe Rainey of East Orange, New Jersey; two daughters, Mrs. Pearl Dodds of Mt. Vernon and Mrs. George B. Robinson of New Brunswick, New Jersey; and five grandchildren. All four children will be present for the funeral.
