"An Aged Resident of Jefferson County Died Wednesday of Pneumonia"

Washington Quinn passed away at his home in McClellan Township on Wednesday at 2:45, at the age of 90 years and 17 days. His death was due to pneumonia and his number of years having reached the advanced mark, there was very little chance for his recovery.

"Uncle Wash" as he was familiarly known was born in Virginia and when a small boy moved with his parents to Tennessee, where they resided for a number of years, and from there they moved to Shawneetown, but lived in that place a short time, when the family came to this county, where Uncle Wash has since lived.

He was married four times, but the first union was the only one blessed with children. There were seven children, three of whom are living: they are Mrs. Sarah E. Bodine, of this city, John F. Quinn, of Marion, IL, and Mrs. Ed Dare of Oklahoma City, OK. The last marriage was to Mrs. Debbie Morgan, which occured but a short time ago. Besides this wife, there is another now living and two are dead.

Uncle Wash was a familiar sight to the Mt. Vernon people, as he often came to town when it was possible for him to get around. During the ravages of the smallpox here a few years ago, he was attacked by the disease, which left him in a blind condition.

The funeral occured Thursday at 2 P.M. at Hickory Hill Church and the burial at the same cemetery.
