Stanley E. Pyszka

Stanley E. Pyszka, 84, of Scheller died 2:43 a.m. Dec. 7, 2004, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

He was born April 1, 1920, in Scheller, a son of Lottie and Lena (Rastopher) Pyszka.

He married Alice (Kerry) Pyszka Oct. 30, 1945, in Du Bois at St. Charles Catholic Church; she survives in Scheller.

Mr. Pyszka is also survived by three sons, Stanley A. Pyszka and wife Frances of Waltonville, Carey "Deno" Pyszka and wife Deanna of Benton and Mark Pyszka of Georgetown; a brother, Albert Pyszka and wife Sylvia of Belleville; two sisters, Bernice Osborn and husband Neal of Nason and Bernida Newell of Waltonville; a grandson, Stanley A. "Stash" Pyszka and special friend Tiffany Clark of Mt. Vernon; two granddaughters, Monica Witter and husband Charles of Mt. Vernon and Jessica Pyszka-Pigg of Nashville; and seven great-grandchildren, Alexis, Chelbie, Hannah, Abbigal, Gretchen, Kamber and Logan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank Pyszka; and an infant brother, Vincent Pyszka.

He was a coal miner for Freeman United Coal Orient No. 3 in Waltonville until retirement and was a farmer. He was a member of St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Scheller.

He graduated from Waltonville High School in 1939.

He was a member of the Waltonville Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ashley Sportsman's Club. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the 3rd Armored Division.

Mass will be held 10 a.m. Friday at St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Scheller, with the Revs. Daniel Jurek and Bert Iffert officiating. Interment will follow at St. Barbara's Catholic Cemetery in Scheller. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville. Rosary will be conducted by the Rev. Von Deeke 7 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to St. Barbara's Catholic Cemetery and will be accepted at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville. Newell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, where you may call 279-7272 for further information.
