Dr. Harry O. Philp, one of the best known and most highly respected physicians of Southern Illinois, died this morning at 9:30 o'clock in Benton.

Dr. Philp was born in Waltonville, and much of his life was spent in Jefferson county. He was 62 years old.

Dr. Philp is survived by his widow, Daisy, and one son, James, of Missouri, and the following brothers and sisters: Walter Philp, of Waltonville; Thomas Philp, of Colorado; and Mrs. George McMeen, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Ida E. Newell, Waltonville; and Mrs. W. N. Dodds, Mt. Vernon.

Dr. Philp was a son of the late James W. and Augusta Philp of Waltonville, most highly respected residents of Jeffeson county in their day.

Dr. Philp was a graduate of the Missouri Medical College, St. Louis, and after graduation located at Ewing in Franklin county, where he practiced his profession sometime, going from Ewing to Benton, where he continued practice until his death. He was one of the most successful physicians in this section, and was very popular alike as a physician and as a man.

Dr. Philp was a devout churchman, and one of the most zealous members of the M. E. church of Benton, giving freely of his time and means to promote the cause of the church. He was well known in the southwest part of the county, where the friends of his childhood and later years remained his friend for life. He had many friends in Mt. Vernon and elsewhere in Southern Illinois.

Funeral plans had not been made up to a late hour today.

Harry O. Philp, M.D. born in Jefferson Co., Ill. Oct. 1, 1869, son of James Ware Philp & Augusta (Kinne) Philp. James Philp was a farmer, a native of Ill. The Mother was a Hoosier by birth. James was reared on a farm in Jefferson Co., ILL.

James Philp was a Union Soldier in the Civil War, being captured and incarcerated in the Andersonville prison. Member of Co. I of an Ill. regiment. Harry. O., son of James and Augusta Philp received his education in public schools of Jefferson Co. Doctor Philp and his wife, Daisey (Neal) have one son named James, lives in Kansas City, Kansas and is now deceased. The Philps belonged to the Episcopal Church. Member of Ewing Lodge No. 705 of Masons. Identified with Southern Illinois and Franklin County Medical Societies. A republican.

He was a practicing physician in that area.
