Mary E. Phillips

MARY E. PHILLIPS 90, DIES; LEAVES 114 DESCENDANTS
Mt. Vernon,Illinois

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Phillips of 328 1/2 Main Street, who leaves 114 descendants, died at 1:00 a.m. yesterday June 27,1960 at the Lowry Nursing Home. She was 90 years, five months and 11 days old.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow at the Pulley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John Hurt officiating. Burial will be in Old Shiloh Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Pulley Funeral Home, where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. today.

Mrs. Phillips was born January 16, 1870, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Joseph and Martha McCormick Tate.

She was married to John E.Phillips October 1, 1886, who preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, five brothers, and four sisters.

Survivors include five sons, Burrell and Harley Phillips both of Mt. Vernon, Joe Phillips of Sycamore, Ill., John Phillips of Oneco, Fla., and Bert Phillips of Moweaqua, Ill.; five daughters, Mrs. Maude Huff of Bloomington, Ill., Mrs. Blossom Herron of Washburn, Ill., Mrs. Gail Nealy and Mrs. Myrtle Thomas of Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Doris Cooley of St. Elmo; a brother, M. M. Tate of Texico; 23 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
