Lester Phillips

LESTER R. PHILLIPS, 77, of Route 1 , Mt. Vernon and late of American Beauty Nursing Home in West Frankfort, died at 11:40 p. m. September 29, 1990, at American Beauty Nursing Home.

Mr. Phillips was employed by Mt. Vernon Car Manufacturing Co. for several years, and later was a welder at Inland Steel and at Lay's Manufacturing until retirement.

He was born March 25, 1913, in Jefferson County a son of Burrell A. and Mabel A. ( Piercy) Phillips.

July 24, 1932, in Mt. Vernon, he married Wanda Jean Isaac.

October 7, 1974, in Mt. Vernon he married Vera Wilson, who survives.

Services will be 1 p. m. at Hughey Funeral Home with J. Howard Kraps officiating. Burial will follow in Old Shiloh Cemetery. Friends may call 5 to 8 p. m. today at the funeral home.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Phillips is survived by two daughters, Carol Gray and Mrs. Bill ( Linda ) Nancarrow, both of Mt. Vernon; four sons, Loren Phillips and wife Shirley, of Peru, Gary G. Phillips of Rockford, Paul Phillips of Mt. Vernon and Joe Phillips of Nashville, Tenn.; one brother, Russell Phillips and wife, June, of Mt. Vernon; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces andnephews.

Mr. Phillips was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Central Christian Church, of American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon, Moose Lodge No. 755, and was a charter member of Mt. Vernon Gun and Sportsman Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Andy Phillips.
