Emma Hallien (Wetzer) Payne

Emma Hallien Payne, 85, of Danville, and formerly of Mt. Vernon, died 11:50 a.m. September 24, 1994, at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home in Danville.

She was the maintenance person for the rectory and St. Paul's Catholic Church in Danville for several years.

Mrs. Payne was born September 11, 1909 in Jefferson County, a daughter of John M. and Goldie (Thompson) Wetzer.

July 4, 1931, in Jefferson County, she married Milford A. Payne, who died March 7, 1972.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Wilbert Iffert officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home. Rosary services will be held at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Payne is survived by a son, Ronald G. Payne and wife Carolyn of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Myrna Butler and husband George of Danville; eight grandchildren, Douglas Payne, Michael Kevin Payne, Jeffrey Todd Payne, Ronda Payne, Deborah Reffett, Michelle Chesnut, Timothy Marack, and George Butler II; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Wetzer and wife Alice of Opdyke; three sisters, Velma Grabber of Little Rock, Arkansas, Ruth Hodges and husband Gleason of Mt. Vernon, and Anna Marie (Tommie) Hill of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Payne was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon.

She was an excellent seamstress, a great cook, and a loving mother, grandmother, great-randmother and sister. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Richard Robert Payne; a sister Viola Hancock; and an infant sister."
