Rev. James M. Palmer, 78, of Corpus Christi, Texas, and formerly of Mt. Vernon, died 8:52 a.m. Jan. 6, 2005, at Christus Spohn Hospital Shoreline, Corpus Christi, Texas.

He was born July 5, 1926, in Chicago to William Hobart and Josephine G. (Shelton) Palmer.

He was an ordained minister.

Graveside services were held 1 p.m. Sunday at Sursa Cemetery in rural Jefferson County. The Rev. Everett Lemay officiated. Burial was at Sursa Cemetery. There was no public visitation.

Survivors include brothers Len Palmer and wife Dottie Jo of Mt. Vernon and Hobart Palmer and wife Dorothy of Mt. Vernon and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Betty JoAnn Palmer, brother William E. Palmer and half-brother Jack Warnick.

The Rev. Palmer was a member of the Baptist faith and attended Southcrest Baptist Church in Corpus Christi.
