Paul H. Ossig

Paul H. Ossig, 85, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 10:35 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor.

He was born Jan. 2, 1924, in West Frankfort, the son of Richard Paul Ossig and Sadie Bell Newell.

He married Martha Alberta "Bert" McNew on Aug. 20, 1948, in Mt. Vernon and she preceded him in death on June 11, 2007.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 23 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Garlin Burns and Mr. Jeramy Easley officiating.Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 22 at Hughey Funeral Home.Interment will be at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. A military flag presentation will be conducted by the chaplain of American Legion Post 141.

Paul is survived by a son, Ernest Ossig of Nashville, Tenn.; three daughters, Paula Easley and husband Mark, Debbie Reeves and Tanya Johnson, all of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren, Chris Easley, Katie Lowery, Jeramy Easley, Josh Reeves, Tiffany Skidmore and Cody Johnson; and a great-grandchild, Brenden Lowery. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

His parents, wife, five brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Ossig worked as a custodian for Rend Lake College and served in the United States Army.
