Kermit Newell

Kermit NEWELL, Waltonville

Kermit Newell, 70, of Waltonville, died at 2:15 p.m, Sunday at Good Samaritan Hospital.

He was a retired coal miner.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at Fry Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Floyd Hartleys and the Rev. Avis Richardson officiating.Burial will be in Maple Hill cemetery at Sesser.

Body will lie in state at Fry Funeral Chapel in Waltonville, where friends may call after 6 p.m., today. Masonic Rites will be conductedat 7 p.m., today at the chapel.

Mr. Newell was born Aug. 2, 1906,in Jefferson County, the son of Dennis and Grace Green Newell.

He was first married to Opal Hodge who died in 1968.

He later married Lucille Fagan, who survives.

Other survivors include one step-son, Danny Fagan, of Escondido, Calif; one step-daughter, Mrs. Maxine Denham of Ewing; one brother, Delbert Newell of Evansville, Ind; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Mr. Newell was a veteran of World War II, was a prisoner of war in Germany, in 1945; a member of V. F. W. Post 9153 of Waltonville; Masonic Lodge 918 of Sesser; I. O. O. F. of Waltonville; Moose Lodge 755 of Mt. Vernon; Sportsman Club of Ashley; and a life member of Ex-POW Lodge of Okawville.
