J. Russell NEWELL, Cornelia, GA

J. Russell Newell, 72, of Cornelia, GA., formerly of Mt. Vernon, died Jan. 5, 1968, at Stephens County (Georgia) Hospital.

Mr. Newell was the son of Asa Eli and Estella (Merriman) Newell.

He married Gladys Gilbert, who survives.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Jan. 7, 1988 at Whitfield Funeral Home in Baldwin., Ga. Burial followed in Level Grove, Cemetery.

Mr. Newell ministered to several area churches for many years. He served as Elder of the Cornelia Christian Church and was Chairman of the Cornelia Christian Mission Board.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Audra) White and Mrs. David (Phyllis) Terrell; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill Newell and wife Velma of Mt.Vernon; two sisters, Mrs. Benton (Gladys) Lacey and Mrs. Earl (Velma) McNeil of Waltonville; and one sister-in-law, Ila Newell.

Mr. Newell was preced in death by his parents and two brothers, Francis Newell and Joel Newell.
