Betty Lou (Tate) Newbury

Betty Lou Newbury, 75, of Waltonville, surrounded by her children, grandchildren and all of her family, went to be with her Lord 4:05 p.m. Oct. 10, 2004, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Newbury was born March 7, 1929, in Jefferson County to Orville and Jewell (Carter) Tate.

She married Billy G. Newbury Sept. 13, 1947, in Waltonville; he died Jan. 5, 1994.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Clifford Hicks will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Newbury is survived by sons Billy G. Newbury Jr. and wife Judy of Opdyke, Robert E. Newbury of Waltonville, Roger Newbury and wife Donna of Waltonville and Ronnie Newbury and wife Terry of Mt. Vernon; daughters Patty Galiher and friend Mitch of Mt. Vernon, Kathy Taylor and husband Charlie of Mt. Vernon and Betty Jane Eskew and husband Rick of Waltonville; grandchildren Blake Newbury and wife Sarah, Quentin Newbury, Angela Galiher, Bobby Newbury, Bonnie Lee and husband Bruce, Bethany Newbury, Mary Dial and husband Monte, Lori Hunsell and husband Jacob, Hailee Newbury, Tyler Newbury, Crystal Eldridge and husband Brad, Amber Lampp, Brandon Newbury, Tara Newbury and Maegan Eskew; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Evalo Mays of Boyd; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two grandchildren, Patricia Moore and James Galiher; and an infant brother.

Mrs. Newbury was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Waltonville. She loved people, enjoyed laughing and making other people laugh and was always concerned for others.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Newbury family and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
