Ptollmy "Toll" Mullinax, of 416 Castleton Avenue died at 7:25 last night at Jefferson Memorial Hospital form injuries suffered when he was struck by a car at 5:30 pm at Fifth and Main streets.

It was the third traffic death in the Mt. Vernon area since Wednesday afternoon. Ed Narkewicz of Woodlawn died earlier yesterday from injuries suffered in a highway accident Wednesday 12 miles west of Mt. Vernon.

First of three deaths occurred at 3 pm Wednesday when George Nichols, a Waltonville resident died form injuries suffered in a head-on collision of his car and a truck on the Waltonville road.

Mr. Mullinax was 64 years, nine months and 17 days of age.

Authorities said that he was walking and was apparently struck by a car driven by Grace Mae Bruce, 18 of Wayne City.

The accident occurred during a dense fog.

According to a report at police headquarters, Miss Bruce was driving behind another eastbound car driven by Orval Lee Chapman, 20, of 1504 Perkins Avenue.

Chapman saw Mr. Mullinax and swerved to prevent striking him. Chapman's car sideswiped a parked car and then struck the corner of a tavern building.

Miss Bruce's car apparently struck Mr. Mullinax. She said she saw no one in the dense fog but felt that she had run over something.

Coroner Ben Roeder said an inquest will be held tomorrow.

Mr. Mullinax, a farmer, was born March 3, 1887 in Jefferson county, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Mullinax.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 pm at the Pulley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bird Green officiating, and burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Pulley Funeral Home after 10 am Saturday.
