Monterville Morrow or "Uncle Mont" as he was familiarly called, died at his home near Hopewell in Rome township at 1 o'clock yesterday morning of congestion of the stomach, after a short illness.

Uncle Mont was about seventy-eight years of age and was one of the pioneers of Jefferson county.

He was a native of this state having been born in Washington county, but resided the greater part of his life on the homestead where he died.

Deceased was a member of the M. E. church and was highly respected by all who knew him on account of his generous and hospitable instincts.

For some time he had been in feeble health and during the early month of summer, was confined to his house and it was feared that he could not survive the hot weather, but to the surprise and gratification of his friends, he regained in a large measure his former strength and made a number of trips to Mt. Vernon, the last being one week ago last Saturday.

He leaves a wife and five children, three daughters and two sons, of whom two daughters, both married, live in this county. Of the non-resident children two live in Kansas and one in Pierce City, Mo.

Uncle Mont was a gentleman of the olden type and was a fast friend of the REGISTER editor, who will cherish his memory with affectionate regard.

The burial was held at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon with interment at opewell Cemetery. The obsequies were conducted by Rev. J.C. Kinnison, pastor of the Union Street M. E. Church of this city.
