James “Jim” A. Miller

James “Jim” A. Miller, 61, of Mt. Vernon, died 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 2012, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.

He was born Friday, Sept. 22, 1950, in Granite City, the son of Robert Elee and Mable (Sharleville) Miller.

He married Martha A. Stevens on Oct. 21, 1972, in Mt. Vernon.

Jim was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. He was an avid golf player who loved playing as a member at Green Hills Golf Club, where he won the club championship in his flight in 2011. Jim served our country in the Army for twenty-one years, part of which he served in Vietnam. He worked at McCoy and Howard Consulting Engineers.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Matt Miller and special friend Tiffany Sronce of Mt. Vernon; brother, Donald Miller of Brunswick, Ga.; sister, Vicki Dacey and husband Bruce of Pompano Beach, Fla.; mother-in-law, Susanna Stevens of Mt. Vernon; special niece and nephew, Jamie Wheeler and husband Jay of Mt. Vernon; great-niece and nephew, Emily and Drew Wheeler of Mt. Vernon; brother-in-law, Jim Thomas and wife Carol of Mt. Vernon; and many other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; farther-in-law, John Stevens; brothers, Robert Miller, Jr. and Richard Miller; sister, Lois Pilger; and sister-in-law, Connie Thomas.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Epworth United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Bud Storey officiating. Interment will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Jefferson County. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Epworth United Methodist Church or the Humane Society and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
